Exploring themes and masteries

What if I made an adventure game that was all about personal growth along different themes?

Most of the Adventure/RPG hybrid games I’ve seen didn’t mix much at the personal growth level.

And the few cases that do mix those ideas more could have mixed them even more.

Challenge

Why is it so hard for me to design quests and gates?

I suppose part of the challenge is normally quests and gates are so arbitrary.

My design process is usually a combination of following natural flow and harmonizing conflicting elements. I do enough of that and I get a creation.

But the standard adventure game flow is so arbitrary, I struggle to see any kind of motivation for the quests and gates.

Narrative

What if I focused on the perspective of the recent cliche Steam reviews, describing some outlandish events that happened?

What if I thought in terms of the stories others can tell?

“Hey, in Marloth, you can ______!”
