Nivana likes to play with fire. She wields it fearlessly, but she also gets burned.

Maybe magical fire wielding could be a theme for her…

<aside> ⚠️ From a fantasy mechanic perspective, the idea feels a little generic and overdone. But as a metaphor, I feel like it has so much untapped potential.

<aside> 💡 What if she wields fire but at great self damage? I feel like every magical fire wielder I’ve seen in media is always simply immune to fire damage, missing half of the point of the metaphor.

<aside> 💡 If I do use this direction, may be I could mix it up, like make the fire purple or blue. Nivana is cool-headed and rational, not hot-headed, so a more mystical tone could subdue some of the inapplicable fire associations.

<aside> 💡 Maybe I’m running too much with the knee-jerk “Playing with fire” phrase. Nivana could be playing with some other element that is self-damaging.

Maybe she’s playing with blood magic, necromancy, or curses.
