Adelle looked at the door.

“Maybe it’s unlocked.”

“It can’t be unlocked. This is a containment cell. The point is to prevent us from leaving the room on our own.”

“This door has a handle on our side. Isn’t that odd for a containment cell? Did your door have a knob before?”

“I don’t remember. Much of the time I was barely conscious.”

Adelle turned the knob and the door opened outward. She peered through the doorway and then back to James.

“It’s not locked.”

“Yes, that’s why I was saying—wait, what?

“The door is unlocked.”

James paused for a moment and then said, “I would have tried the door eventually.”

Adelle smiled and peered through the doorway again. James moved closer and looked with her. It was a dark hallway with many doors, just as he remembered it.

“Let’s go exploring!” said Adelle.
