In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. - Warhammer 40,000

"In the grim darkness of the grimdark, there is only... grim darkness.” - Viktor, Paladins

It is childish to think that the most grown up perspective is a world consisting exclusively of war and destruction.

To do so is to neglect all of the nearly infinite other dimensions of human life that make the world go round.

Grimdark is childishly myopic.

Grimdark is how a preteen boy might imagine what being a grown up is like.

Grimdark is closely related to Millennial narcissism.

In defense of the original creator’s of Warhammer 40K, to some degree their grimly dark vision was tongue-and-cheek. Since then others have taken the idea more seriously.

However, from its onset, 40K was a little pretentious.

Pretension is practically a requirement for the nerdy ostentation Games Workshop puts into each product.
