I keep waffling between calling this just “Desperation” vs. “Wicked desperation”.

I think the challenge is I’m somewhere in the middle.

In general, this feature isn’t the sort of desperation I want heroes to have, but it doesn’t have to be full blown evil.

At it’s mellowest, the scope of this feature can include “questionable decisions that lead to negative consequences”.

Overview

Anything to survive.

Characters feeling justified to perform wickedness as long as it preserves their lives or the lives of their idols.

Similar to Hopeless despair, except the character is still striving.

Scope

This topic has nothing to do with bad people doing bad things. It’s about nice people doing bad things when the going gets tough.

This topic requires storyline pressures which force characters to make hard choices. The pressure acts as a test and catalyst to reveal people’s hearts.

Survival horror

The main catalyst in TWOLD is Survival horror.

Taking a stand

Conversely, this feature can be a foil for characters who stand for what is right.
