Another world

A key part of cosmic horror is the idea that there is a vast, and mysterious world beyond our own.

It is also incomprehensible. It is beyond human understanding.

All of this applies to God, Heaven, and Hell. The supernatural realm.

Doom

In Lovecraftian horror, doom is alien and arbitrary.

In the real world, doom is due to sin. People reject God, and their doom is Justice.

Teasing

Lovecraft’s writings relied heavily on teasing—ideas that are wonderful from a distance but lose their wonder up close.

Lovecraft was pretty skilled at walking the line, compromising between teasing and satisfaction.

Most cosmic horror fiction that has followed his inspiration have usually fallen into one ditch or the other: revealing too much or too little.

Either way, cosmic horror usually leaves a tinge of emptiness.

However, I may be able to bypass some of that by employing my methods for Authentic portrayal of women.
